COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective To have teacher candidates knowledge about algebra, algebraic thinking and basic algebraic concepts, to increase the knowledge and skills of teaching algebraic concepts; to have an idea about the students' knowledge about these subjects and to make them related to daily life and other lessons
Course Content Algebraic thinking, the importance of algebraic thought in teaching mathematics; pre-algebraic period; arithmetic-algebra relation; generalized arithmetic and functional thinking; basic algebra concepts; different notations in algebra teaching; teaching of variables, algebraic expressions, equations and equations, linear equations, identities and inequalities (using the appropriate teaching materials and strategies, etc.); student knowledge about these subjects (understanding, interpreting, thinking about the difficulties experienced by students, mistakes, misconceptions of concepts and their reasons); related to daily life and other subjects

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Knows the definition of algebraic thinking and attaches importance to the place of algebraic thought in mathematics teaching.
2Has knowledge about pre-algebra period.
3Interprets arithmetic-algebraic relations.
4Learn concepts of generalized arithmetic and functional thinking.
5In algebra teaching, recognizes the importance of different notions, makes the transition between the notations.
6Develop course content layouts and appropriate teaching materials for teaching basic algebraic concepts.
7Establishes the relationship between basic concepts of algebra and daily life and other lessons.
8Examine the students’ knowledge of basic algebraic concepts, interpretations; know the misconceptions of concepts and their causes.
