COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree
Course Type Compulsory
Course Objective To construct teacher candidates the number concept, number systems, the number sets, the transformations between representations of numbers; to improve their knowledge and skills in teaching these subjects; to have an idea about the students' knowledge about these subjects and to make them related to daily life and other lessons
Course Content Number system, natural numbers, operations in natural numbers, numbers with different bases, integers, factors and multiples, divisibility rules, LCM and GCF concepts and applications; ratio, proportion concepts and applications; real numbers, exponents and square roots, fractions, decimal representations, percentages; rational and irrational numbers; teaching sets and basic concepts about sets’ (organizing course content - using appropriate teaching materials and strategies, etc.); student knowledge about these subjects (understanding, interpretation, student difficulties, mistakes, misconceptions and reasons of students thinking about concepts); these subjects are related to daily life and other lessons.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Find different number systems used in mathematics important and has knowledge about the setup of these number systems.
2Know the properties and usage places of operations done with different number systems.
3Has knowledge about factors and multiples, divisibility rules, LCM and GCF concepts and makes different applications about these concepts.
4Knows different representations of numbers and transforms between these notations.
5Learn the difference between rational and irrational numbers and the features of this number group.
6Knows the basic concepts about sets and makes applications about these concepts.
7Develop course content layouts and appropriate teaching materials for teaching basic concepts about numbers.
8Establishes the relationship between the basic concepts of numbers and daily life and other lessons.
9Examine the students’ knowledge of the basic concepts of numbers; know the misconceptions of concepts and their causes.
