Course Objective 1. The aim of this course is to introduce students to fundamental concepts of science and sociology. 2. To provide the students with conceptual knowledge about the definition, subject matter and research methods of sociology and its relationships with other social sciences to gain information about individuals, society, social structure, and social change. 3. To get students acquainted with social facts and events based on theoretical and practical knowledge to develop critical analyzing skills.

Social Structure, Social Status, Social Role and Stratification. Family As A Social İnstitution. Education As A Social Institution. Social Behavior Patterns. Social Mobility and Social Change. Information Society. Culture and Civilization. Ethnic Culture As A Social Fact. Violence As A Social Fact

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Distinguish the factors that play a role in the emergence of sociology.
2Explain the methodology of sociology within social sciences.
3Explain the topics of the individual, society, social structure and social change based on theoretical and practical knowledge.
4List initial factors and mechanisms of social change.
5Objectively analyze the social structure of Turkish society.
6Deal with national and global social issues based on a critical perspective.
7Recommends appropriate solutions to national and global social problems.
8Evaluate national and global social events based on systematic knowledge and skills.
9Students present their acquired knowledge effectively to the class.
10Students do group work after gaining knowledge and skills of social responsibility.
