COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of this course is to know the aims, principles, historical background, working areas and place of mental health in counseling and guidance; to recognize the basic approaches, models and services in school counseling.
Course Content Basic concepts and principles of counseling and guidance; history, field and branches of counseling and guidance; research and evaluation methods, counseling process, counseling theories, school counseling models (traditional and developmental), school counseling approaches (crisis-oriented, remedial, preventive and developmental), the purpose, principles of traditional school counseling model, the role and functions of the psychological counselor in traditional school counseling model; the purpose, principles and program of the developmental school counseling model (Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program), basic services / interventions and roles of the developmental school counseling model and functions of developmental school counselor; the purpose and principles of developmental and preventive approach in counseling and guidance; the importance of life skills education in developmental approach, positive youth development approaches and prevention levels in prevention (basic, second and third level).

12He/she explains the roles and functions of psychological counselors.
13He/she understands the ethical and legal aspects of counseling and guidance
14He/she discusses the current issues in counseling and guidance.
