COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective 1.The aim of this course is to deal with education based on sociological aspect and give it to a social meaning. 2. To help students to comprehend the integration of the social aspects of education with sociological findings. 3.To show students sociology of education is a technical discipline that focuses on solving the problems as the result of the teaching and education. 4. To teach students to grasp knowledge and skill how to scan the scientific research and how to prepare a research paper including their own ideas and perspectives. 5. To help students to gain skill and experience how to present their research paper to the class.
Course Content Basic concepts of sociology: Society, social structure, social phenomenon, social event, etc .; pioneers of sociology (Ibn Haldun, A. Comte, K. Marx, E. Durkheim, M. Weber, and others); education in terms of basic sociological theories (functionalism, structuralism, symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, critical theory, phenomenology and ethnometodology); social processes (socialization, social stratification, social mobility, social change, etc.) and education; social institutions (family, religion, economy, politics) and education; development and education sociology of sociology in Turkey (Ziya Gokalp, Ismail Hakki Baltacıoğlu, Nurettin Artillery, Mumtaz Turhan et al.); culture and education; school as a social, cultural, moral system and community.
