Course Objective Course goals include helping preservice students to develop: • Understanding the purpose and nature of social studies • Knowledge of social studies content and sequences; Tthe ability to select and utilize developmentally and age appropriate materials and techniques. • Confidence in their teaching abilities; The Course is essential in helping teacher education students acquire knowledge, interactive and informational processing skills, attitudes, and commitments necessary for effective teaching of the social studies in elementary and middle schools and attainment of the goal of effective citizenship in a diverse and interdependent world.
Course Content Definition of social studies and teaching traditions, examples of writing goals that are appropriate for gradual classification in social studies; the principles adopted in the selection and arrangement of content in the teaching of social studies; examination of content approaches in terms of teaching social studies; to use strategies, principles, approaches, methods and techniques in teaching-learning processes in social studies.
