Course Objective To introduce the general structure of social psychology, its basic concepts and the relationship between social psychology and social studies.
Course Content Definition of social psychology, social psychology’s big ideas, social psychology and human values, self-concept, self-esteem, self-control, self-serving bias, self-presentation, perceiving our social worlds, judging our social worlds, explaining our social worlds, expectations of our social worlds, how well do our attitudes predict our behavior. How does our behaviors affect our attitudes, why does our behaviors affect our attitudes, how are we ınfluenced by human nature and cultural diversity, how are gender similarities and differences explained, evolution and gender, culture and gender, what is conformity, what are th classical conformity and obedience studies, why conform, who conforms, what paths lead to persuasion, what are the elements of persuasion, extreme persuasion, how can persuasion be resisted, social facilitation, social loafing, deindividuation, group polarization, groupthink, the influence of the minority, power and nature of prejudice, sources of prejudice, consequences of prjudice, what is aggression, theories of aggression, influences on aggression, how can aggression be reduced, what leads to friendship and attraction, what is love, why do we help, when will we help, how can increase helping, what creates conflict, how can peace be achieved.
