COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective 1. The aim of this course is to provide students with information about the historical development, fields and branches of anthropology. 2. To get students acquainted with concepts and theoretical knowledge about research techniques and methods in anthropology and its relationships with other social sciences. 3. To teach students theoretical and practical knowledge about concepts of culture, approaches to culture, content of culture, and cultural studies, historical evolution of human, cultural evolution, the relationships of natural environment with production and type of markets, differentiation and forming groups, kinship, marriage and race with reviewing other cultural theories.
Course Content Historical emergence and development of anthroplogy. The limitations of racial explanation. Social sciences and anthroplology. The concept of culture and the theory of culture. Cultural contents and processes. Field research in anthropology. Method and technics; applied anthropology. Cultural evolutions and revolutions. Energy, naturel environment and population. Types of production and consumption with trading styles. Differentiation, classification and group together. Kinship, lineage and marriage. Process of training: the dimensions of ındividual, society and culture. What is human? Who is he? General evaluation of the course.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Students distinguish factors that play a role in the emergence of anthropology.
2Students explain the methodology of anthropology within the social sciences.
3Students explain the concept of culture and cultural theory, the content of culture, cultural research based on theoretical and practical knowledge.
4Students prepare a research paper including their own opinion and asessment about science, technology and social change by reviewing the past related scientific research.
5Students evaluate differentiation, grouping, kinship, marriage and race on the basis of theoretical and practical knowledge and skills.
6Students objectively analyze the social and cultural structure of Turkish society.
7Students deal with national and global socio-cultural issues based on a critical perspective.
8Students make group work after gaining knowledge and skills of social responsibility.
