COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective 1. The aim of this course is to introduce students to fundamental concepts of science and sociology. 2. To provide the students with conceptual knowledge about the definition, subject matter and research methods of sociology and its relationships with other social sciences to gain information about individuals, society, social structure, and social change. 3. To teach students how to evaluate universal social facts and events based on systematic knowledge and skills.
Course Content Sosciology as a social science. The definiton, field and borders of sociology. The research method in sociology. Individual and society. Social structure, social status, social role and stratification. Family as a social institution. Education as a social ınstitution. Social behavior patterns. Social mobility and social change. Information society. Culture and civilization. Ethnic culture as a social fact. Violence as a social fact.

1To distinguish the factors that play a role in the emergence of sociology
2To explain the topics of the individual, society, social structure and social change based on theoretical and practical knowledge.

6To recommend appropriate solutions to national and global social problems.
7To present their acquired knowledge effectively in the face of the community.
