Course Objective To define sociology of education, to understand sociological perspectives and the study of education, to grasp social systems, structures and functions, to tell the action perspective, labelling theory and life chance, to understand the conflict perspective- to compare informal education and fomal education, to explain social functions of education in society, to explain socialization process, to discuss alienation and education in society, to explain education and social mobility relation in society, to grasp social stratification theories, social class and education relation, to explain the impact of factors as parents, migration, mass media, globalization on education systems, to discuss school as a social system, school and social environment relation, school and violence.
Course Content Contents and description of sociology, branches, fields and definition of educational sociology, The process of socialization, socialization and education, functions of community in schools, the school as a social agency, transactions in schools and the functions of education, social structure, social movements, centralization, migration, crime, violence, spread throughout the world and effects of all of them to educational system, social changes in Turkey, alienation and effects of educational system.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To deal with education based on sociological aspect and give it a social meaning and essence
2To combine social aspects of education with sociological findings, and comprehend that as the synthesis of a certainty application.
3To learn that sociology of education is technical discipline that deals with solutions of every problems in the process of education and training
4To prepare a research paper including their own views and assessments after reviewing past research about sociology of education
5To acquire knowledge and skill of how to represent effectively their own research paper to the class
6To gain knowledge and skills of social responsibility and do group work
7To analyze objectively the educational system of Turkish society
8To deal with critically the national and global educational issues
9To recommend suitable solutions to the national and global educational issues.
