COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of this course is to introduce the students to the crucial developments of Modern English Theatre , and to enable them to develop a crucial appreciation of the plays to be studied throughout this course. This course enables the students to acquire a critical understanding of modern art, literary creativity and significance, and also to form some idea about the life and society of the twentieth century. Thus, to develop the students’ skill for criticism and argumentation is the essential aim.
Course Content To develop skills of examining and interpreting the effects of 20th century England history, its social and cultural structure and the movement of modernism on the theatre plays.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1 Is provided with a historical, social, and cultural perspective of the 20th century England.
2 Understands and interprets the 20th century literary movements.
3 Understands the coherence of context and meaning in the 20th century plays.
4 Examines the texts with theoretical knowledge.
5 Correlates the texts with other texts by analysing the subtext.
6 Develops a critical perspective towards the texts.
7 Understands the effects of the features of the period on the literary texts.
8 Compares the plays with the plays of the previous periods and relates the cause effect relationship between them.
9 Makes character analysis.
10 Develops a critical understanding by correlating literary texts .
11 Expresses ideas concerning the texts analysed theoretically in written.
