COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of course is exploring the art and architecture during the 15th and 16th centuries of Ottoman Empire and examine the plan types and ornamentation programs of buildings.
Course Content Ottoman architectural monuments from the period from Fatih Sultan Mehmet until Yavuz Sultan Selim (1451-1512) will be discussed with their decorations and planning features. Then, will be given an evaluation as an entry for classical period of Ottoman Art.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Will be able to define the concept of archaeology and modern archaeology.
2Will be able to describe the techniques and methods of excavation.
3Will be able to explain the scientific methods before the excavation such as geo-radar, geo-physics studies.
4Will be able to explain the different excavation techniques especially for the excavation in the lands without archaeological stratigraphy and only one period settled sites. Will be able to define the techniques of excavation in the lands without archaeological stratigraphy.
5Will be able to define the techniques of excavation in the sites, settled only one period .
6Will be able to define the techniques of excavation in the sites, settled more than one period. Will be able to understand and describe the changes in stratigraphy.
7Will be able to define the techniques of excavation in the cemetery areas, kurgans and tumuli.
8Will be able to understand the techniques in registration and recording of the findings (writen reports, drawings, and photograhical records).
9Will be able to understand the problems in Anatolian and Turkish Archaeology. Will be able to know the problems in Turkish Archaeology for Medieval and the Later Periods and the related excavation sites.
10Will be able to understand and define the techniques and materials of Survey.
11Will be able to make general evaluation about the excavation, the tools and materials of survey and excavation, the techniques and methods of survey, excavation and recording, and the problems of Anatolian and Turkish Archaeology.
