Course Objective The course aims to introduce the origin and formation process of the Byzantine Art; to explain the terminology in the main study areas (Architecture-Painting-Minor Arts) of Byzantine Art.
Course Content The formation process of Byzantine art will be reviewed; by examining the effects of the social, economic and political peculiarities of Late Antiquity on the art production. Will examine changes in the distribution of the art production after Christianity. The physical structures of the Byzantine period cities and Istanbul, will be examined. Terminology in the main study areas (Architecture-Painting-Minor Arts) of Byzantine Art will be examined.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Will be able to explain building types and and structural parts of Byzantine architecture.
2Will be able to associate the Roman basilicas and basilica planned churches, and define the evolution of the basilicas.
3Will be able to define Byzantine architectural monuments by using terminology.
4Will be able to introduce the types of Byzantine paintings and handcrafts samples.
5Will be able to classify the liturgical objects.
6Will be able to use the terminology of painting and handcraft effectively.
