Course Objective The course aims to introduce the origin and formation process of the Byzantine Art; to explain the terminology in the main study areas (Architecture-Painting-Minor Arts) of Byzantine Art.
Course Content The formation process of Byzantine art will be reviewed; by examining the effects of the social, economic and political peculiarities of Late Antiquity on the art production. Will examine changes in the distribution of the art production after Christianity. The physical structures of the Byzantine period cities and Istanbul, will be examined. Terminology in the main study areas (Architecture-Painting-Minor Arts) of Byzantine Art will be examined.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Will be able to recognize with examples of the main character and supplies of Late Antiquity art
2Will be able to discuss the reinterpretation of the pagan elements in the Christian art.
3Will be able to provide information about the monuments and topographical structure of the Istanbul, new capital of the empire.
4Will be able to provide information about the firsth centuries of Christianty and the early sanctuaries.
5Will be able to define the catacomps and their decorations.
6Will be able to discuss the iconography of Chirstian art in Late Antiquity period.
