COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree

Course Objective The aim of course is defining and understand the terms of architecture, ceramic, and ornamentation and the other terms related with the discipline of Art History.
Course Content Historical monuments, their definations and various sections dwell on in art history will be teached. (Mosque, madrasa, public houses, tombs, baths, a covered bazaar, bazaars, palaces, bridges, caravansaray, pavilion, painting, sculpture, mosaic, etc. ).
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Will be able to explore and use the basic terms of Art History.
2Will be able to explain and compare the building types in religous functions such as dargah, tekke (dervish lodge), hanikah etc and their architectural design and functions. Will be able to explain the terms such as caravanserai, han, and ribat with detailed information about their architectural development processes.
3Will be able to define the commercial buildins such as çarşı (market), bedesten and arasta and the buildings for the funerals such as turbe, kumbet (a large tomb with a dome-shaped or conical roof), hazire (special cemetery) and compare their architectural features and the spread pattern in the regions. Will be able to describe the building types such as palace, kiosk, qasr, chateau (a manor house or royal residence), yalı (waterside mansion or redience) and the types of mahfels in the mosques.
4Will be able to explore the water related structures over the World and explain the their different cultural background. Will be able to classify the Christion building types such as basilica, church, chapel etc. Will be able to define the buildings of military architecture such as castle, wall, tower etc. with examples from the World.
5Will be able to describe the ornamentation terms suc as fresco, mosaic, sgrafitto, malakari, repousse, stained glass etc. Will be able to explain the terms such as Palmette, rumi, lotus, Tree of Life, halo, statue, sculpture, figurine etc. with the examples.
6Will be able to describe the terms of the Turkish hand woven textile products such as halı (carpet), kilim (rug), cicim, zili, sumak etc and classify the examples. Will be able to explain the terms such as idol, monogram, icon, and iconography.
7Will be able to define the terms of Turkish civil architecture such as cumba (alcove), hayat, sofa (tisch) and the terms of the religous architecture such as son cemaat yeri, mihrab, narthex, harim, tackapı (portal), minbar etc. Will be able to describe and compare the plan types in the religious architecture of Islam and Christianity with the drawings.
8Will be able to explain the terms and the parts of minbar, minaret, fountain, and bridge with drawings. Will be able to describe the parts of the pages and binder of the manuscripts.
9Will be able to make general examination the terms related with the discipline of Art History.

1 Introduction.
2 Techniques of glazed tiles.
3 Techniques of glass making.
4 Introduction to Greek art. Architectural types.
5 Terminology of Greek art and urbanism.
6 Terminology of Greek scuptural art.
7 Terminology of Greek architecture.
8 Three dimensional representations like figurin, sculpture, statue and those which contain symbolic meanings like life tree and corona together with plant motives like palmet, rumi, lotus etc. will be emphasized.
9 Textile and woven products like carpet, rug, zili, light rug and sumac will be introduced in accordance with their techniques.
10 midterm exam
11 Exedra, life, sofa parts in civilian buildings and last community place, mihrab, narthex, sanctum sanctorum, portal and sermon chair encountered in religious buildings elements will be presented with illustrations.
12 Plan types applied in religious buildings of Christian and Islamic architecture will be introduced with drawings.
13 Explanations concerning parts of mimbar, minaret, fountains and bridges will be shown in details on drawings.
14 Parts seen on pages and covers of hand manuscripts will be shown on drawing and also a general evaluation will be performed.
