Course Objective The aims of the course are to study sculptures of Late Hellenistic Period and understand features and regional influences of Aphrodisias and Laodikeia sculpture. The objectives of the course are to know, understand, and compare the Late Hellenistic Period sculpture and periodical features of architectural reliefs.
Course Content In the scope of the course, developments in Pergamon, Tralleis, Rhodes, Alexandria and Hellas, after the Period of Alexander the Great, and interaction between them will be examined.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To be able to examine the characteristics, works and sculpture of Late Hellenistic Period.
2To be able to explain the importance of architecy-tural reliefs in Late Hellenistic Period.
3To be able to understand funerary reliefs in Late Hellenistic Period.
4To be able to recognize the friezes and main characteristics of principal temples in of Late Hellenistic Period.
5To be able to understand sculpture, characteristics and sculptors of Aphrodisias.
6To be able to examine the main characteristics of Laodicean sculpture.
7To be able to understand regional features, interconnections and creativity of artists.

1 Methods of lecture and bibliography will be explained. The Nike of Samothrake which is an important artifact of Hellenistic Baroque Style will be described.
2 Mythology and artistic features of Farnese Bull Group, which is an important artifact of Hellenistic Baroque Style, from Naples Museum will be described.
3 Mythology, artistic features and replicas of Laokoon Statue Group, which is an important artifact of Hellenistic Baroque Style, from Vatican Museum will be described.
4 Mythology and artistic features of Sperlonga Groups (Blinding Polyphemos, Skylla Group, Stealing of Palladion and Pasquino Group) which are important artifacts of Hellenistic Baroque Style will be described.
5 Detailed information about important artifacts of Hellenistic Baroque Style and its main framework, reliefs of Bergama Zeus Altar, its architecture and historical events will be given.
6 General features of Late Hellenistic Period and the history, mythology and artistic features of Telephos Friese which is a part of Bergama Zeus Altar will be explained.
7 Important artifacts of Late Hellenistic Period, Venus of Milo (Melos), Poseidon of Milo (Melos), Aphrodite of Berlin (Heyl Aphrodite), Polybios relief, the statue of Alexander the Great from İstanbul Archaeological Museum, Bronze Thermen Administrator of statues of heroes will be described.
8 Important artifacts of Late Hellenistic Period, statues of Cleopatra and Dioskorides, Isis of Delos, Artemis of Milan, Hermaphrodite of Therme Museum and Sleeping Eros will be described.
9 Important artifacts of Late Hellenistic Period, statues of Pan and Hermaphrodite, Satyr and Nymphe, Satyr and Hermaphrodite, Aphrodite and Pan, Eros and Pyskhe will be described.
10 Important artifacts of Late Hellenistic Period, reliefs such as Archelaos Relief, Munich Dedication Relief, Grave Stele from İzmir, Victim Binder will be described.
11 The frieses of Lagina Hekate Temple, which is an important temple of Late Hellenistic Period, and its fetures according to the period will be explained.
12 The frieses of Magnesia Artemis Temple, which is an important temple of Late Hellenistic Period, and its fetures according to the period will be explained.
13 Appearance of sculpture of Aphrodisias, marble quarries, general features of types, sculptors and exportation of artifacts to the ancient world will be explained.
14 Sculpture of Laodikeia, revealed artifacts, local features, influences and creativity of artist will be explained with examples.
