Course Objective The aim of the course is analyzed that the Archaic and Classical sculpture of Greek. The objectives of this course are, to analyze social and politic structure benefited by sculpture in archaic and classical period.
Course Content Beginning from 650’s B.C. to the end of 4th century B.C, the development of Greek sculpture will be introduced. Sculpting works produced in Anatolia, Islands and Hellas will be analyzed. The development of sculpting schools, style and period features will be explained.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

1To be able to understand the evolution of sculpture form the Archaic period to the end of Classical period.
2To be able to describe the phases of archaic and classical sculpture in relation with historical and political events.

1 Methods of lecture and bibliography will be explained. General information to remind the Severe Style and High Phase in Classical Period will be given.
2 Detailed information about Kresilas, who is a sculptor of, and about his artifacts will be given.
3 Information about Niobids statue groups, Eleusis Relief, Hermes, Eurydike and Orpheus reliefs and Pella Grave Stele of Late High Phase in Classical Period will be given.
4 General features of Rich Phase in Classical Period, historical and political events which prepared this period will be explained.
5 Information about Alkamenes, Agorakritos and Paionios, who are the important sculptors of Rich Phase and about their artifacts, will be given.
6 Information about the friezes of Bassae (Phigaleia) Apollon Temple and Athens Erechtheion Temple which are the important temples of Rich Phase will be given.
7 Information about the frieze and balustrade reliefs of Athena Nike Temple and frieze and pediment reliefs of Nereids Monument in Xanthos will be given
8 Information about Trysa (Gölbaşı) Heroonu which is an important monumental tomp of Rich Phase and Satrap Sarcophagus and Lycia Sarcophagus from İstanbul Archaeological Museum will be given.
9 History of the 4th century B.C., mental changes of people and its reflection to the sculpture and general features of the statues of this century will be explained.
10 Information about Timotheos, who is an important sculptor of 4th century B.C., and artifacts of Epidaurus Asclepius Temple where he worked, and Leda statue by him will be given.
11 Information about Kephisodotos, who is an important sculptor of 4th century B.C., and his artifacts will be given.
12 Information about Skopas, who is an important sculptor of 4th century B.C., and his artifacts and Tegea Athena Alea Temple where he worked will be given.
13 General features of Praxiteles, who is an important sculptor of 4th century B.C., and his artifacts will be explained.
14 General features of Leochares ve Bryaxis, who are important sculptors of 4th century B.C., and their artifacts and information about Halikarnasos Mausoleum, which is an important monumental tomb of the 4th century B.C. and one of the seven wonders of ancient world and its sculpture will be given.
