Course Objective The aim of this course is to define the Archaic Period ceramic art with its general scope and to examine the Archaic period social and political structure. The objectives of this course are to compare the production centers and trade relations in the Archaic period ceramic art and the works made in the ceramic production centers (Athens, Corinth, Crete, Rhodes, Melos, Naukratis, Millet and Klazomenai) comparatively. This course is to define the Classical Period ceramic art with its general scope and to examine the social and political structure of the Classical Period. The objectives of this course are to examine the effects of Archaic pottery art on Classical pottery art comparatively, to examine the technical characteristics of painters in the Classical pottery art and the painting techniques applied in this period.
Course Content The style development in the black figure technique, which started to be produced starting from the end of the B.C. 7th century, and later red figure technique, will be explained by giving examples from production centers and vase painters. The relations of the subjects depicted on the vases with mythology will be explained. The characteristics, development, production centers, vase painters, spreading areas, development and changes in figure techniques, which emerged as a result of the economic and political changes that took place at the end of the 6th century BC and seen until the Hellenistic Period, will be explained with important examples.
