COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective Knowing the stages in the process from quarrying to using in building the stones used in ancient architecture; in addition, to learn about the arrangement of infrastructures; carrier members such as column and wall, and the superstructures and roofs carried by them, in antiquity; to have an idea about the origins of architectural orders, temple plan types and properties during antiquity.
Course Content All stages of the process starting with quarrying of the stones, their transportation and employment in construction shall be explored. Sections of the Doric, Ionic, Corinthian and Composite orders, architectural elements used in them will be studied in drawings and images. Building sections and architectural elements used there in antiquity will be taught with examples and drawings. Temple plan types will be explored from the simplest to the most advanced with images and drawings.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To understanding of the ancient architecture and its importance for archeology.
2To know the phases of the stones used in the ancient architecture from the quarry to the construction.
3Recognizing the architectural schemes used in antiquity and architectural elements to distinguish.
4Explain the wall techniques used in Antiquity and their differences.
5Temple types in ancient period, knowing the characteristics and differences between them, to make inferences about plan type from facade view.
6To be able to make inferences about the social life of Antiquity.
7Have knowledge and experience on the subject to express in writing.
