COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The course aims to introduce the origin and formation process of the Byzantine Art; understanding of the effects of social and cultural changings in Late Antiquity, to explain the conversion of art production shaped with pagan beliefs in the process of Christianization. 
Course Content Evolution of the basilical plan type will be explained. Constantinus I. era churches and monumental buildings of different plan types dated to the 5th - 6th centuries will be introduced. Will be given detailed information about the Iustinianus era architecture.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Will be able to recognize with examples of the main character and supplies of Early Christian art.
2explain the basilicas of the Roman Imperial Era and the evolution of the basilica plan-type with examples.
3give detailed information on the important buildings established in the 4th and 5th centuries araound mediterranean. (Anatolia-Syria-Italy-Greece)
4explain the features of Byzantine Architecture of Emperor Justinianus Period.
